We’ve recently changed webhosts so we’re taking this opportunity to re-do our website. Keep an eye out for our new look - and maybe we’ll actually blog more and tell you what’s going on!

post Weeds

Our backyard seems to have been overrun by weeds so I took the opportunity to take some pictures of them. Check out our gallery of weed pictures.

post Congratulations!

Reuben’s cousin, Christopher, graduated from high school today. He was (is?) the valedictorian in a class of 800! We’re driving down to South Carolina (Columbia area) tomorrow to celebrate.

I think I’ve got a cousin that has or will be graduating too, but I’m not sure. It’s a lot easier to keep track of these things when you only have 1 cousin, rather than 18 (at least I think that’s all my first cousins, not including their spouses, kids, etc!)! If I’m a couple years too late or early, I apologize!

Anyway, congrats to all the grads - high school and college!

post Sorry!

Ok, so it’s been a while since we’ve written anything. Reuben’s parents are doing well - getting by on one car until they decide what to replace the Prius with. Turns out there was a “witness” - a guy 2 cars behind them who turned right. He didn’t see the accident, but he was able to vouch that they had a green light, otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to turn! So good news there, I guess.

Reuben had a colonoscopy on Monday. They did find a polyp but it’s benign. They’re testing it to see which type it is (one type stays benign, one usually turns into cancer…). He’s got to go back in 5 years, unless the polyp is the cancer kind, then they might want him back earlier.

I’ve been going to counseling for a few weeks. I’ve been having trouble with anxiety, but I’m not really sure why so… I guess maybe I’m doing better, or I’m at least aware of what’s going on so I can deal with it better. Still hooking away at scarves and baby blankets, and still loving it!

Otherwise, no big news. We were going to go to Portland at the end of June but plane tickets are just too expensive. Maybe we’ll do another road trip to Wisconsin this summer - course gas is so expensive too so we’ll see. I’m worried about Neomi - she seems to be having some problems again, similar to last time. Doesn’t seem possible since as far as they could tell they removed everything during her surgery. I’ll be calling the vet next week to see if we should take her to our regular doc or if I should call the specialist person and have them check her out (since our vet didn’t see anything when they checked!). Hope she’s fine and I’m just being paranoid, but I don’t think so. Yuck.

Any good news you ask? Well, I did have a birthday! Reuben stayed home from work to spend the day with me. We slept in, went out for lunch, and just sat around doing our usual “weekend nothing” the rest of the day. No big deal, but it was a nice day. I spent the morning on Friday with a friend and her baby (Marie & Victor) who I haven’t seen in several months. It was good seeing them again. Hopefully we’ll all get together for dinner or maybe grill some lunch sometime soon.

I think that’s a pretty good update.

post Prayers of thanks

Let’s all say “Thank you”! Reuben’s parents were in a car accident this afternoon - nobody was injured (though Pascal (Reuben’s dad) will likely lose a fingernail), but their Prius was totaled. They were going across an intersection and a woman ran a VERY red light (going about 60mph in a 35mph zone!) and crumpled the entire front of the car, spinning them around. She then ran up on the sidewalk, back down onto the road, and continued at least 150 feet before she finally stopped. We didn’t witness it, just got called as a ride home after, but we saw the aftermath. Not sure what the lady’s story was, but from the little we heard (and her reaction to things) it sounds almost like she was trying to say it was Pascal’s fault (he was driving). Unfortunately, even though there were several cars at the intersection at the time of the accident, nobody stopped to be a witness! So, even though the evidence (skid marks, damage, etc) show that Pascal wasn’t at fault, it’s basically a case of “he said, she said”. Grrr! We’ll see how insurance sees it and what happens next.

The main thing is that nobody was seriously hurt. It kinda sucks that the Prius is totaled but that can be replaced.
